Rhys Williams - Constructing the public good
Williams, R. H. (1995). Constructing the public good: Social movements and cultural resources. Social Problems 42(1): 124–144.
In this article, Williams looks at the linkage between collective action and cultural resources. His claim is that, next to money, members and organizational resources, cultural resources need to be considered too when analysing social movements. Public political debates and public rhetoric affect movements in their tactics and repertoires of action. The article argues that theoretical lens should be broadened, and the nexus between culture and ideology taken seriously in the discussion of social movements.
