This open-access volume provides evidence-based knowledge on European solidarity and citizen responses in times of crisis. Its ten chapters are based on the findings from the EU Horizon 2020-funded research project ‘European paths to transnational solidarity at times of crisis: Conditions, forms, role-models and policy responses’ (TransSOL). The collection presents detailed empirical material obtained in eight European countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Switzerland, and the UK). It shows national variations as well as common patterns of attitudes in the studied countries. The cross-national dimension of solidaristic responses to economic, political, and cultural challenges is also addressed in an effort to test the capacity of contemporary Europeans to live together and to create social cohesion.
