‘Class, Culture and Identity’
Special Issue on ‘Class, Culture and Identity’, Sociology (2005), 39(5)
The editors have prepared this special issue of the journal Sociology in an effort to show what it means to bring the terms class, culture and identity together. Namely, they claim that theoretical analyses of class in the English-speaking context historically developed separately from the analysis of either culture or identity. Such considerations, however, need to be included in any contemporary analysis of class, so this special issue of the journal presents a selection of articles submitted in response to the editors’ invitation to contribute to the described topic. In addition to two introductory essays by the editors, the issue contains 12 articles and 3 book reviews related to the problems of class, culture and identity. Although quite diverse and relating to the context of the English-speaking countries, the issue is well worth studying, as the approaches and conclusions of different articles are also relevant in other contexts.
