Fair Museum Jobs Summit: Volunteering in Museums and Heritage. 2021

Volunteering and unpaid internships have long been a core entry route into this sector, and often only open to a privileged few. This panel will consider ways to volunteer in museums for career development without being exploited.

Panellists:
- Gary Haines, Archivist, RAF Museum, worked as an archivist for over 20 years, both as a volunteer then a professional. Have also worked for two years in a Front of House role supporting access. Passionate about access, breaking down barriers and telling stories from the archive.
- Stuart Bowes. PhD Candidate, University of Leeds and Royal Armouries (he/him)
- Pauline Chouraki (she/her) - Currently studying MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies at the University of Manchester, former volunteer at University of Cambridge Museums (Kettle's Yard and Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology) and Ely Stained Glass Museum.
- Eleanor Hall, Victoria and Albert Museum, Gallery and IPM Assistant (she/her)
- Anna Somner, Volunteer Gallery Assistant at The Box, in Plymouth, and Collections Volunteer at the Royal Cornwall Museum (previously Citizen Curator). Heritage Management MA student at Queen Mary University of London with Historic Royal Palaces. Previously Membership and Visitor Welcome Assistant, Volunteer Manager, Visitor Experience Assistant and Duty Manager at the National Trust. Prior to that Royal Albert Memorial Museum, in Exeter, and Devon Libraries (she/her).
