Arts and Public Health — Daisy Fancourt. 2020

Daisy Fancourt on the effect arts have on our well-being, the correlation between reading fiction and health behavior and how arts can treat chronic pain.

'Arts engagement can help to reduce cognitive decline in older age. For example, we found that activities like going to museums, galleries, the theatre, concerts are actually associated with a slower rate of cognitive decline in older age independent of all the other factors in people's lives. We also find that these activities are associated with a lower risk of developing dementia.'
